Classic Hogwarts - Grand Opening
Welcome to Classic Hogwarts! We are just starting our forum and we're working extremely hard to get things on the move and ready for members. All things that are needed in order to roleplay here on Classic Hogwarts are set up and ready to go. So, if any guests wish to do so, they may register to Classic Hogwarts and get started. We have a few things left to accomplish before we 'officially' open the forum, but as for that we're ready to go.
Hogsmeade Access - Must Read - under construction « Result #1 on Aug 30, 2007, 5:15pm »
Hogsmeade Access
A code has been set on the Classic Hogwarts forum to ensure that no underage students have access to the Hogsmeade board. Once a member has reached the rank of a third year student (300 posts), the Hogsmeade board will appear and members may then access it at any time of their choosing.
About Hogsmeade
The only all Wizarding village in Great Britain; it was located near Hogwarts; students in third year and above could go there on certain weekends during the school year.
The Three Broomsticks is one of the local pubs in Hogsmeade. It is known for its delicious butterbeer and its beautiful owner Madam Rosmerta, who lives above the pub. It is said by Hermione Granger that Ronald Weasley finds Madam Rosmerta very attractive. The Three Broomsticks is a favorite pub among Hogwarts students and staff.

It is said by Hermione Granger that Ronald Weasley finds Madam Rosmerta very attractive. The Three Broomsticks is a favorite pub among Hogwarts students and staff.
Hogsmeade Station is the closest train stop to Hogwarts; the Hogwarts Express stops here after travelling from King's Cross. Scenes involving Hogsmeade Station in the Harry Potter films were shot at Goathland railway station on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, built in 1865 and virtually unchanged, that serves the village of Goathland in the North York Moors. According to Rowling's illustrations, Hogsmeade station is not actually in Hogsmeade, but on the opposite side of the lake.
The Hog's Head
The Hog's Head is another pub, which often attracts a more unusual and private clientele than the Three Broomsticks, and many of the customers hide their faces. The hanging sign on the front of the pub has a severed boar's head, leaking blood onto the white cloth around it. The pub itself is filthy, with the floor covered with layers of dirt, and the windows smeared with so much grime that little light gets through. The main floor is a single room, but there are additional rooms on the upper floors. Harry notes that the pub smells strongly of goats. The bartender is Aberforth, the brother of Hogwarts Headmaster Albus Dumbledore.
Despite its seedy reputation, the Hog's Head pub has been host to several important events in the world of Harry Potter. The inn was the headquarters of the 1612 Goblin Rebellion. A few months before Harry was born, it was here that the seer Sybill Trelawney revealed the prophecy connecting Lord Voldemort and Harry, during an interview with Albus Dumbledore for the position of Divination teacher at Hogwarts. It is also where Rubeus Hagrid wins an illegal dragon egg (Norbert) while gambling with a disguised servant of Voldemort. In Order of the Phoenix, the first meeting of Dumbledore's Army is secretly held at the Hog's Head. It also serves as a evacuation point for the underaged students directly before the Battle of Hogwarts. The children are sent to Hogwart's Room of Requirement and travel to the Hog's Head through a portrait of Ariana Dumbledore. Also during the Battle of Hogwarts, the Hog's Head is the gathering place of the remaining members of The Order of the Phoenix and Dumbledore's Army who have gathered to fight against Voldemort and his Death Eaters.
Dervish and Banges
A shop that sells and repairs magical equipment, Dervish and Banges is located near the end of the High Street.
Scrivenshaft's Quill Shop
Scrivenshaft's is a stationery shop located on the High Street.
Gladrags Wizardwear
Gladrags Wizardwear sells clothing. There are other branches in London and Paris. It is full of quirky merchandise, and appears to specialise in strange and unusual socks.
Madam Puddifoot's
Located on a little side street off the main High Street, this small tea shop is a favourite among Hogwarts couples out on dates. On Valentine's Day Madam Puddifoot hires floating golden cherubs to throw pink confetti on visiting couples. It was at Madam Puddifoot's that Harry celebrated his Valentines day with Cho Chang.
Honeydukes Sweet Shop
Honeydukes is one of the most famous wizarding sweetshops in the world. It sells wizarding sweets of all descriptions, including Chocolate Frogs, Liquorice Wands, Pepper Imps, Chocoballs, Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans, Fizzing Whizzbees, Droobles Best Blowing Gum, Toothflossing Stringmints, Ice Mice, thingyroach Clusters, Jelly Slugs, Blood Lollipops, Acid Pops and Sugar Quills, among others. Honeydukes is particularly well known for their special kind of fudge. They also sell creamy chunks of nougat, shimmering pink squares of coconut ice, fat, honey-coloured toffees, and hundreds of different kinds of chocolate.
The owners, Ambrosius Flume and his wife, live in a flat above the shop. There is a trapdoor in the cellar of Honeydukes, which connects to a secret passage. The passage leads to a statue of a one-eyed witch on the third floor of Hogwarts. Harry Potter uses this to illegally enter Hogsmeade in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
Post Office
The post office is filled with at least twotothreehundred owls, ranging from Great Grey Owls to tiny Scops (the latter for "local deliveries only"), hooting down from colour-coded shelves. The shelves are colour-coded based on how quickly they will arrive at their destination.
Shrieking Shack
This house is supposed to be the most haunted building in Britain, and even the Hogwarts ghosts avoid it. Fred and George Weasley once tried to get in and failed. When James Potter and his friends were in school, Remus Lupin used this house during his monthly transformation into a werewolf to stay isolated from the students. He was brought there every month by Madam Pomfrey and it was the transformations that caused the rumour of the shack being haunted. This house is where the encounter between Sirius Black, Peter Pettigrew, Severus Snape, Remus Lupin, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger takes place. The only known way to access it is by a passageway underneath the Whomping Willow tree on the Hogwart's grounds.
Not all of the above Hogsmeade attractions can be found in the Hogsmeade board, but perhaps the most popular. It is also possible that from time to time new boards will be added.
Affiliation - Must Read « Result #2 on Aug 30, 2007, 3:35pm »
Affiliation
Thank you for choosing to affiliate with Classic Hogwarts, but before we get started, there are a few things that you need to do. Make sure that you have all of the following, or we will not be able to affiliate:
A forum URL A Mini Banner (The size for your mini banner must be the standard affiliate size (88 x 31 pixels) so that your affiliate banner does not stretch our bar.) If your affiliate banner is not this size, then you can ask a staff member to resize it for you or it will be deleted. An active forum
If you do not have these things, you will need to create them before we can affiliate. Classic Hogwarts asks that you put up our affiliate banner as well. In turn, we will post up yours. If at any time your affiliate image link has been broken(the image doesnt appear anymore) then your affiliate banner will be removed. The non-working image link makes our affiliate bar look inactive, therefore we will remove them as soon as we see them.
Every now and then, we will also conduct an active affiliates search. If we go to your forum and it is no longer existing, then your mini banner will be removed from our affiliate bar. Its only fair. Besides, it clutters up our space and loading time for an inactive link.
The Template
In order to keep all affiliation requests neat and tidy, we have provided all members with a template to apply for an affiliate position with Classic Hogwarts. Post this template up in your own thread under the affiliate board.

At Classic Hogwarts professors may give out house points as a reward to any attending student. The points will be added to a student's house if given. It is also possible that a student may lose points for their house as well if they have done something wrong. The House with the most points at the end of the year will win the coveted house cup.
Earning House Points
There are a number of ways a student may gain house points. One way is to answer a question correctly in a lesson, the professor may even give you points for at least trying - depending on which professor you have. Another way is to be the first in your class to successfully perform the spell that you are learning or concoct a potion correctly. If a student has been appointed the position of Prefect, they will automatically earn 25 points for their house. These are only some ways that you may earn house points. There are many other unlisted reasons.
Losing House Points
The only way to lose house points is to misbehave. Any misbehaving will result in a detention and/or taking away house points. It is almost guaranteed that your house peers will be angry at you if you step out of line and cost them house points that they have worked so hard for. You can always redeem yourself by earning points back that have been lost.
Finding House Points
Members will be able to check up on their house points by looking at the info center hosted on the main page of the Classic Hogwarts forum. If they wish to do so, they may also enter the entrance hall and find a subboard there where the house points will also be documented.
Documenting House Points
If a staff member or professor on Classic Hogwarts is unsure of how to document house points, all they have to do is contact an administrator and they will be able to take it from there.
Questions
If any members have any questions regarding the House Point System, they should contact a staff member as soon as possible.
The following list of spells has been taken straight out of the Harry Potter book series. This particular list has been adapted from Mugglenet.com and is copyrighted to them.
Accio - Accio is also known as the Summoning Charm, and is used to make objects fly straight to the spell caster.
Age Line Charm - This spell produces an Age Line - a barrier that detects the age of anybody trying to cross it and ejects those who are too young (with the definition of "too young" presumably specified by the caster of the spell). The line it produces is thin and golden in colour.
Aguamenti - This spell was introduced in Harry's 6th year, and causes a jet of water to come from the end of the caster's wand. The speed of the jet is controllable, and the magic can produce anything from a small trickle of water to a powerful jet of it.
Alohomora - This is a fairly basic spell used to open a locked door or window
Anapneo - Clears the airways of the person who the spell is cast upon, allowing them to breathe properly.
Animagus Transformation - This is an exceptionally difficult piece of magic that allows a witch or wizard to transform themselves into an animal at will.
Anti-Cheating Spell - A spell that teachers at Hogwarts use on quills for exams to prevent cheating.
Anti-Disapparation Jinx - When cast on a person it prevents them from Disapparating.
Anti-Intruder Jinx - Repels intruders.
Antler Hex - During the breakout of anarchy following Fred and George walking out of the school in Harry's fifth year, a number of unpleasant things happened to many of Dolores Umbridge's allies.
Aparecium - Used to reveal invisible ink.
Apparate - This spell allows the caster to appear instantly in a given place. It is used in conjunction with Disapparate. The caster must Disapparate from one location in order to Apparate in another. It is the favoured mode of transport of adult wizards when they wish to travel quickly, but cannot be used by children as an Apparition Test has to be passed before it is legal to use it. The Apparition Test cannot be taken before the age of 17, and as such, Apparition lessons are available in Hogwarts during the 6th Year.
Avada Kedavra - The Killing Curse.
Avis - Conjures a flock of birds.
Babbling Curse - Effect not stated, but it can reasonably be assumed that it causes the victim to babble nonsense.
Backfiring Jinx - Effect unknown, but the casting of such a jinx in Elephant and Castle (a district of London) was serious enough to require the Magical Law Enforcement Squad to be called out.
Banishing Charm - This spell is the opposite of Accio, which is the Summoning Charm. It causes an object to fly away from the caster.
Bat-Bogey Hex -This spell enlarges the bogies of the victim, makes them fly like bats and then attack them about the face.
Blasting Charm - A charm used to good effect by Alberta Toothill in the 1430 All-England Duelling Competition, where she used it to defeat the favourite, Samson Wiblin.
Braking Charm - The Firebolt broomstick comes complete with an unbreakable Braking Charm, very useful as it can reach speeds of over 150mph. It is not clear which company manufactures the Firebolt: if it is Comet, then this charm is likely to be an improved version of the Horton-Keitch Braking Charm, also included in the spells list. If it is another company, this is likely to be an entirely different piece of magic.
Bubble-Head Charm - The Bubble-Head Charm is used to create a bubble of air around the caster's head. It can be used to allow the caster to breathe underwater.
Cheering Charm - Produces a feeling of great contentment in the target person. Harry's class covered this magic in Charms classes during the third year.
Colloportus - This spell is used to magically seal doors, making a squelching sound as it does so, but it is not particularly effective. It can easily be countered with Alohomora.
Colour-Change Charm - This spell causes the target to change colour. It certainly works on animals, as Harry was meant to cast it on a rat during his Charms OWL in order to turn it orange.
Colour Flash Charm - Possibly a variant of the Colour-Change Charm, this is used to make the item it is cast on flash different colours.
Concealment Charm - The effect of Concealment Charms has not been specified, but it is safe to assume that they are used to conceal something so that it cannot be seen.
Confundus Charm - This spell is used to confuse an object or person, to disorient them or make them believe what the spell caster wants them to.
Conjunctivitis Curse - Conjunctivitis is an inflammation of the conjunctiva (mucous membrane that lines the surface of the eyelid and the exposed surface of the eyeball), and is taken from the Latin "conjunctus," meaning "joined together." This curse is aimed at the eyes of the victim and causes the eyelids to crust together so that the victim cannot see. In addition to loss of sight, it seems to cause pain to the victim as well.
Conjuring Spells - These are a category of spells taught in NEWT-level Transfiguration classes, as Professor McGonagall informed her class at the start of their OWL year. They are not strictly Transfiguration-based, however, in that they are used to Conjure items into existence from nowhere.
Crispy Skin Hex - This is another spell used on allies of Umbridge during the breakout of anarchy following Fred and George walking out of the school in Harry's fifth year.
Crucio - The Cruciatus Curse. It inflicts severe physical pain on whomever it is cast upon, usually causing them to scream in agony.
Curse Alleviation Charm - When Katie Bell was injured by the cursed necklace from Malfoy, Professor Snape did everything that he could to prevent a rapid spread of the curse.
Curse of the Bogies - Professor Quirrell told his class about this curse, although its exact effect is unknown. Something to do with bogies, no doubt.
Cushioning Charm - This spell creates an invisible cushioned area, which is usually intended for sitting on. It is primarily used in broomstick manufacture to make the brooms more comfortable.
Daydream Charm - This gives the spell caster a highly-realistic 30 minute daydream, according to its inventors Fred and George Weasley. It can have side-effects of minor drooling and a vacant expression, but this aside it is virtually undetectable. Daydream Charms can be found for sale in Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes.
Deletrius - This charm is used to erase spell images conjured by Priori Incantem. Densaugeo - This hex enlarges the teeth of the victim.
Diffindo - Diffindo is a spell that rips an object in half or causes things to separate.
Disapparate - This spell allows the caster to disappear instantly from any given place with a soft popping sound, or alternatively a loud cracking noise, which appears to occur at both ends of the journey taken.
Disillusionment Charm - This spell is used to hide something, and is typically used to conceal magical objects and occurrences from Muggles, making them blend into the background like a chameleon.
Dissendium - This may be a path-revealing spell.
Drought Charm - This spell dries up a limited amount of water.
Enchanted Mist - This was one of the obstacles Harry encountered in the maze during the Third Task of the Triwizard Tournament, and is presumably produced by some magical means. It is golden in colour and causes the world of anyone entering it to turn upside-down. Their feet are still on the ground, but up and down are reversed, meaning that the victim is left dangling, stuck to a floor that has become the ceiling, with the sky beneath them. The spell is broken if the victim removes a foot from the ground, and the world turns back the right way up for them.
Enchanted Sleep - During the Second Task of the Triwizard Tournament, one hostage for each Champion was placed in the village of the Merpeople in the Hogwarts lake, for the competitors to rescue. The hostages were first put into an enchanted sleep in order to protect them whilst underwater. Not only were they unconscious, but they could also breathe underwater, as streams of bubbles kept emerging from their mouths, although this second effect is likely to be due to a separate charm placed upon them.
Engorgio - The Engorgement Charm. This causes the target of the spell to enlarge until it is several times its original size. It is likely that the target has to be living matter.
Enlargement Charm - Similar to the Engorgement Charm described above, this causes an object to swell in size.
Ennervate - This spell revives an unconscious person. It is often used to help someone who has had Stupefy cast on them to regain consciousness.
Entrail-Expelling Curse - Invented by the rather vicious-looking Urquhart Rackharrow, 1612-1697. The effect of this spell is unknown, but presumably involves expelling entrails.
Entrancing Enchantment - The effect of this spell isn't specified, but Lockhart mentioned it in the same breath as Love Potions during his ill-fated Valentine's bash, and so we can assume that it entrances the target person in order to make them fall in love with the caster.
Episkey - A healing spell.
Evanesco - This spell is used to make an object or objects vanish.
Expecto Patronum - The Patronus Charm. This is highly advanced magic, beyond Ordinary Wizarding Level, as reported by both Remus Lupin when he was teaching Harry how to do it [POA12] and by Hermione when she and Harry travelled back in time to save Sirius [POA21]. The spell produces a Patronus, which takes the form of a silver animal made of vapour, but is actually a projection of the caster's positive emotions [POA12]. It acts as a guardian, protecting the spell caster, and can be used to ward off both Dementors and Lethifolds.
Expelliarmus - This spell is used to disarm an opponent.
Extinguishing Spell - From the context, it can be inferred that this is a spell that puts out fires.

b]Player Name(Your screen name on Classic Hogwarts)[/b]:Courtnei Your Current Character List(List how many characters you currently have registered on Classic Hogwarts - Each member is allowed a maximum of 3): 2 - Character/Student's Name(Cannot be of famous status - IE: Weasley | Potter): Chloe Arnolds
Character/Student's Appearance(5 sentences required): Chloe has long curly blonde hair and beautiful brown eyes, which she tends to hide behind black plastic framed glasses. She's not very tall, only about 5'2". Chloe is also fairly slim, she weighs only 105 lbs. Chloe has a dazzling smile, even if her teeth aren't perfectly straight, she smiles wide & always shines. Chloe is always dressed in cute, conservative clothes in shades of blue, green, yellow and purple.
Character/Student's Personality(5 sentences required): Chloe tends to be introverted and shy, especially around people she hasn't known for years. She will never be the first to intiate conversation, she always waits for the other person to say the first word. When Chloe is around those whom she loves she is all smiles and talkative. Chloe is also very book smart, when she's not in class or talking with her closest friends she's reading and it never matters what type of book it is (biography, novel, mystery, non-fiction etc). Since Chloe is so book smart she tends to lack some common sense, I mean she knows the basics, but when she's under pressure she tends to not use her head.
Character/Student's Family(Tell about your family | 3 sentences required): Since Chloe is a muggle born her parents do not work in the ministry, or some other wizard business; her father is a doctor, and oncologist to be exact and her mother is a primary school teacher. Her parents have been happily married for 18 years. Chloe also has two sets of caring grandparents that give her candy, money and always pay her compliments. Chloe also has two younger siblings; Jake who is 10 and Aundrea who is 7. She loves her siblings, but sometimes they can be the biggest pain in the world. - Sample Post(Minimum of 10 sentences): Chloe sat down at her favorite table in the library. She set her messenger bag down in the seat and proceeded to her favorite section of the library, the biographies. Chloe loved learning about famous witches and wizards, because she hoped to one day be like them. Her favorite person to read about was Rowena Ravenclaw, her house founder. She found her founder intrigiuing and hoped to one day be just like her. Chloe grabbed a book and walked back over to her table with her nose already burried in the book, but when she sat down on what she thought was her seat there was a little too much cushion, she quickly leapt up and pulled her nose out of the book to see that someone was already sitting in her seat. "Oh my gosh I am so sorry, I wasn't really paying attention to where I was going and my stuff was here first. But I guess I'll just move." Chloe said as she gathered her messenger back and headed to a different table, that is until she felt someone tap her on the shoulder.
In order to become a member of Classic Hogwarts, all new members are required to enroll into their houses. They can do so by filling out the template listed below and posting it in the 'Sorting Hat' board.
We ask that all members do not post up a non-finished character template as it clutters our space and is a waste of our time to read. If you post up a non-finished character template, it will automatically be denied. However, you can always repost it if you would like.
To post your character template, we ask that all members use their character's names as the subject name. This is to ensure easy finding of your character's template if ever needed.
A staff member will then go over your completed character template. If your template has been accepted, your profile will be moved into the appropriate database. Staff members will choose the house most appropriate for your character by what you have described to us. Once you know which house you are in, contact a staff member asking for your house password.
All members must wait to have their character templates accepted before they post in any of the Classic Hogwarts roleplay boards. This is a required process that all members must follow.
All members will start out as first years. When you have reached a certain post count, your year will change. You will start out as a first year student and for example if the rank goes by 100 posts - you will change into a second year student once you hit 100 posts.
Each member of Classic Hogwarts is allowed to hold only 3 characters.
Remember - Fill out the following template and post it in the 'Sorting Hat' board for a staff member to view.
